GAP was founded on the concept of friendly competitions between rival clubs. Throughout its 123-year history, many of America’s — and the world’s — top amateurs had roots to the Philadelphia area. From Albert H. Smith, the first GAP Amateur Champion, to J. Wood Platt, William Hyndman, III, R. Jay Sigel and all the current champions, GAP’s history is long and unmatched.
