DRIVEN BY COMPETITION.
For more than 120 years we have fostered a healthy competitive spirit that is our Association’s trademark. It’s what keeps our golfers, our clubs and our Association adhering to the highest of standards through the decades and into the future.
GAP’S HISTORY IS GOLF’S HISTORY.
We were founded on the concept of friendly competitions between rival clubs. Throughout our 122-year history, many of America’s — and the world’s — top amateurs got their start in the Philadelphia area. From Albert H. Smith, the first GAP Amateur Champion, to J. Wood Platt, and all the current champions, GAP’s history is as long as it is unmatched.learn more
GAP’s Amateur schedule is topped by four Major Championships, including the BMW Philadelphia Amateur, which is the oldest Amateur Championship in the United States with the exception of the U.S. Amateur.
SENIOR CLUB TEAM CHALLENGE
The Senior Club Team Challenge is a three-week competition for players 55 years of age or older.
With the 2018 merger of the Anthracite Golf Association (AGA) and the Golf Association of Philadelphia (GAP), members now have access to over 160 events throughout the season in the GAP region.
The Association runs a variety of Senior events, from gross and net competitions to team championships. Tournaments are for players 55 years of age and older.
GAP CENTRAL SERIES
The GAP Central Series was added in 2018, offering a variety of junior and senior events for members in the North Central Pennsylvania region of GAP.
The GAP Winter Series events go from November through March and offer members the opportunity for a competitive environment in the traditional offseason.
Beginning with the Middle-Amateur Championship in May and ending with the Joseph H. Patterson Cup in August, the GAP Major Championships also include the BMW Philadelphia Amateur and Philadelphia Open Championship. Hosted annually at some of the premier clubs in the region, the Majors are on the radar of every top player in GAP.
GAP runs qualifiers for various USGA championships throughout the season.
The 2019 season marks an expansion of women’s programming. Two new events debut in 2019, the Women’s Spring Scramble and Mixed Foursome Championship. These events are in addition to current opportunities as well as Member Play Days and Winter Series events.
The strength of GAP isn’t measured by its history alone, but rather its future. Developing and maintaining a strong Junior program is vital.
