Founded in 1897, GAP continues to champion golf for the benefit of the game in its region and beyond.
The Chester Valley Women’s Golf Association donated $1,000 to Mary’s Girls, a new program that provides promising young, female urban and community-based golfers with the instructional and financial support to inspire them to excel in the game.
The program was recently initiated with financial support from a local golfer to honor his late wife and is administrated by the Golf Association of Philadelphia (GAP). The ultimate goal is to develop young ladies to the point they may be eligible for college golf scholarships. Carole Mackrell, President of the CVWGA, said, “We are very happy that our membership voted to donate to this worthy program, and we plan to remain involved in helping girls interested in golf take advantage of the opportunities available for them.”
Bill Jones, Director of PLAY (Philadelphia Local and Area Youth) Golf program for GAP was the guest speaker at the Golf Club’s Women’s Spring Meeting and recipient of the check.
Any female golfer, aged 12 and above, with an already demonstrated commitment to the game of golf, who does not belong, as an individual or family member, to a private golf club will be eligible for grant consideration. A sponsor/mentor must commit to actively assisting and mentoring the applicant throughout the duration of a Mary’s Girls grant.
