Battye medals in Open Qualifying

Amateur Benjamin Battye of LuLu Country Club fired a 66 to earn medalist honors in Open Championship Qualifying at Bellewood Country Club (par 71, 6,801 yards) Monday.

Battye, a rising senior at LaSalle University, earned one of 22 qualifying positions and ties available for the Championship proper. The cut line stopped at 2-over-par 73 by day’s end.

The 121st Open Championship will take place July 16-17 at Bidermann Golf Course in Wilmington, Del.
