Philling the GAP: Public Golf Committee

Public golf is paramount to the game’s evolution. To connect with public golfers and to better serve public facilities, GAP established a Public Golf Committee in 2019. It aims to cultivate public golf throughout the GAP region. More than 50 percent of GAP Member Clubs are open to public play. The Public Golf Committee includes GAP Executive Committee and staff members, golf course operators, captains of public facilities represented in the BMW GAP Team Matches and an Amateur Golf Society member. Diverse perspectives, definitive objectives.

  • The Public Golf Committee assists with course consulting, a service provided by GAP in conjunction with the USGA.
  • A bylaw change in 1996 allowed public golf facilities to join GAP.
  • Awareness is key. The Public Golf Committee engages the golf community through its participation in events such as the Philadelphia Golf Show and Upper Deck Golf.

GAP
Celebrating Amateur Golf since 1897, GAP, also known as the Golf Association of Philadelphia, is the oldest regional or state golf association in the United States. It serves as the principal ruling body of amateur golf in its region. The organization’s 345 Member Clubs and 130,000 individual members are spread across Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey and Maryland. The GAP’s mission is to promote, preserve and protect the game of golf.
