SPRINGFIELD, Pa. – Andy Brexler and John Moyer circled the 2026 Francis X. Hussey Memorial on July 14, 2025.
Their 3-under-par 68 in last year’s edition left a lot to be desired. An unsatisfactory uprising inside angered their every being creating motivation for the next opportunity.
Just 364 days later, Brexler and Moyer accomplished what they set out to do. Win the Hussey. The duo carded a 7-under-par 64 to take the crown Monday at Rolling Green Golf Club (par 71, 6,860 yards).
The format is Better Ball of Partners.
Kingston Davis of Kings Creek Country Club and Ryan McNett of USGA/GAP GC finished second at 6 under.
“We’ve played in a ton of better-ball matches when we play together,” Brexler, 17, of Doylestown, Pa., said. “We’ve already had the connection and feel for each other’s games in this format. We are able to keep each other motivated and since our games are similar, they match up well. This tournament has always been a fun thing for us. We always felt it was one we could get our hands on. Winning shows we were both capable of doing it. It’s always fun to win with your buddy.”

Brexler, of Commonwealth National Golf Club, and Moyer of Greate Bay Country Club, met outside of school. Brexler (Central Bucks West High School Senior) and Moyer (Central Bucks South High School Senior) have been friends since. Golf being the kickstart to their friendship.
Andy jolted the pair with a birdie on the opener (par 4, 432 yards) when his 8-iron from 165 yards landed six feet from its home.
“I felt like starting with a birdie gave us some momentum,” Brexler said. “It also gave us a ton of motivation to keep it going. John and I have talked about this tournament since last year. We wanted to come out and put together a good round. One of us always had a par in the hole so it allowed the other to not have as much pressure.”
Making the turn in 2 under left a lot to be desired. It wasn’t a concern. The second nine is where champions are made.
Moyer birdied Nos. 10 (par 3, 248 yards) and 11 (par 4, 356 yards). He striped a 4-iron to 10 feet on 10 and rolled in an eight-footer on No. 11.
The duo birdied the last three holes to surge into the titleholder’s position. Brexler buried a 50-footer for birdie on No. 16 (par 3, 146 yards) and Moyer canned a 20-footer for another red figure on No. 17 (par 5, 520 yards).
“Even though it took us a bit to get the fire burning, we knew we still had hope with a lot of birdie holes on the back nine,” Moyer, 17, of Warrington, Pa., said. “We made a ton of long putts and being able to make them when it mattered showed us that we can handle the pressure of winning a golf tournament.”
The last (par 5, 501 yards) was cinematic. To separate to the solo lead, Brexler stood over another 20-footer.
“We were strongly discussing the line on that putt and we went back and forth on it,” Brexler said. “The putt felt like a breaker and I am glad I trusted the line. Once it went in, I just blacked out.”
A loud hand slap that made everyone turn toward No. 18 to see what the commotion was all about. Moyer said even though they were doing the hand slap all round, that one stung the most. But champions don’t feel pain.
“We definitely made a lot of putts,” Moyer said. “I felt like we didn’t hit the ball extraordinarily well. Our short games were working really well and being able to convert a lot of putts helped us feel confident when we had some pressure.”
The nerves and anticipation filled the duo as they hung out on the back patio at Rolling Green awaiting the word. A result well worth the wait.

“Our individual results this year haven’t been the best,” Moyer said. “This tournament is a one-round shootout. Coincidentally we talked about what it would be like to be interviewed and how we’d answer questions. We love playing as a team, it gives us something to look forward to.”
Jack Gilbert of Gulph Mills Golf Club and Helmut Dang of White Manor Country Club claimed the Junior-Junior Boys’ Division (par 36, 2,941 yards) with a birdie on the second playoff hole. They shot a nine-hole score of 37.
Rayna Maguire and Anastasia Schell of Brookside Country Club took the Junior Girls’ Division with a 116 (par 71, 5,675 yards).
Francis X. Hussey, the tournament’s namesake, was a Junior member at Rolling Green. He suffered from congenital heart disease and died in December 1983 while undergoing major heart surgery. He was 13 years old when he died. Francis was a student in the Haverford Township school system, an avid sports fan and an active junior member at Rolling Green. His courage in the face of his illness was a great inspiration to all who knew him.
