Two teams take titles

Birdie barrages boosted teams to victory in the 31st Four-Player Team at Yardley Country Club.

The boys from Bellewood Country Club; Brian Gardner, Nate Keene, Mark Amadio and Butch Silknitter delivered their club’s first men’s Four-Player Team title (par 72, 6,369 yards) with a 9 under 135 total. A card of 2-under-par 70 from Gardner featured birdies on Nos. 2 (par 4, 387 yards), 3 (par 4, 408 yards) and 4 (par4, 329 yards). A lone bogey on No. 15 (par 3, 159 yards) was his only misstep. Keene’s card came in at even par 72 and featured five birdies. He found red figures on Nos. 6 (par 4, 309 yards), 9 (par 3, 148 yards), 13 (par 5, 490 yards), 16 (par 4, 262 yards) and 18 (par 4, 308 yards).

The Four-Player Team’s scoring format is two best balls of four.

In the women’s division (par 73, 5,304 yards), Missy Wietlisbach and Ellen Miller of Gulph Mills Golf Club teamed up with Marji Goldman of Philadelphia Cricket Club and Michele Rubenstein of Merion Golf Club to take the title at 10-over-par 156. Wietlisbach led the team’s charge with a 8-over-par 81 on her own ball. Miller put the team in winning position with a pair of birdies on Nos. 1 (par 4, 309 yards) and 16 (par 4, 244 yards).
