Philling the GAP: #BMWGTM

If you made it this far, then you know the BMW GAP Team Matches. To what extent is uncertain. But by name alone, GAP’s cornerstone event rings a bell. In 1897, the Association’s forefathers conceived the GAP Matches to promote spirit, fellowship and camaraderie. GAP’s founding Member Clubs – Belmont Golf Association (Aronimink Golf Club today), Merion Cricket Club, Philadelphia Country Club and Philadelphia Cricket Club started the greatest (we said it) tradition in Philadelphia golf. For three weeks, clubs compete against one another; each club fields two teams with six players per side. The BMW GAP Team Matches is in your golfing backyard. No need to search far and wide.

  • The BMW GAP Team Matches featured 388 teams from 160 Member Clubs in 2022. Stay tuned for this year’s pending totals.
  • First known as the Interclub Team Matches, the BMW GAP Team Matches changed to the Suburban League Matches in 1915 before adopting its current moniker in 1997. BMW has served as the event’s presenting sponsor since 2015.
  • Huntingdon Valley Country Club holds the most BMW GAP Team Matches titles with 33.
  • This year’s edition of the BMW GAP Team Matches is scheduled for April 23, 30 and May 7.
