T. Quinn Spitzer of Huntingdon Valley Country Club was elected to serve a second one-year term as President of the Golf Association of Philadelphia (GAP) for its fiscal year beginning Dec. 1, 2018. Spitzer, 69, served as the Association’s President for 2018. Under the Association’s bylaws, Spitzer is eligible to serve three successive years.
The election of Officers and the 17-member Executive Committee occurred on Oct. 25 during the Association’s 122nd Annual Meeting at Tavistock Country Club in Haddonfield, N.J.
Also elected to one-year terms as Officers are Oscar L. Mestre, Overbrook Golf Club, Vice President; Richard Ogorek, Fieldstone Golf Club, Treasurer and Kenneth A. Phillips of Lancaster Country Club, Secretary. Jeffrey S. Henderson of Gulph Mills Golf Club is nominated for a one-year term in his current role as General Counsel. All Officers served in their respective roles in 2017.
Others on the GAP Executive Committee who were elected to serve an additional one-year terms each are Edward R. Brzezowski, Concord Country Club; C. Greg Guyer, Philadelphia Cricket Club; Edward P. Hutchinson, Tavistock Country Club; Michael B. McLelland, Chester Valley Golf Club; Glenn D. Meyer, Philmont Country Club; Noreen M. Mohler, Northampton Country Club; Jules J. Quinones, Blue Bell Country Club; Joseph F. Virdone, Philadelphia Country Club; Michael J. Walsh, III, Aronimink Golf Club and Barry J. Westington, Country Club of Scranton.
Tina S. Gregor of Huntingdon Valley Country Club is an Ex-Officio member of the Executive Committee as a result of her role as Chairwoman of the J. Wood Platt Caddie Scholarship Trust. Gregor, 49, of North Wales, Pa., is co-owner and cofounder of College Pursuit, a college admission consulting company that works with families in Bucks, Delaware and Montgomery counties. She and her husband Frank started the business in 2003. Prior to College Pursuit, Gregor worked in behavioral health and counseling. She majored in psychology at Moravian College and earned a master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1996. Gregor became a J. Wood Platt Caddie Scholarship Trustee in 2008. She introduced the concept of the Dawn to Dusk Golf Marathon, which quickly grew into the Trust’s largest one-day fundraiser. Since its inception in 2010, the Dawn to Dusk Golf Marathon has raised more than $1.9 million to meet the educational needs of its Caddie Scholars. A subcommittee nominated and approved. Gregor to the role of Vice Chairwoman in 2014. She was the first female officer in the Trust’s 60-year history. Married in 1996, Gregor and Frank have three children: Emily, 20, a sophomore at University of Pittsburgh; Frankie, 17, a senior at La Salle College High School and Molly, 15, a freshman at Gwynedd Mercy Academy High School.
Also, two new representatives were elected to their first one-year terms on the Executive Committee. They are:
P. Edward Lovelidge of Hidden Creek Golf Club. Lovelidge, 58, is a partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). Lovelidge is a 36-year veteran of PwC in Philadelphia, Pa. He is a seasoned chief executive recognized for exceptional leadership in the areas of revenue growth, talent development and brand expansion. He has been the partner lead for some of the firm’s most significant, global consumer and industrial products clients. Lovelidge is actively engaged in many civic activities throughout the Philadelphia region, including serving in significant leadership roles on Boards including Elizabethtown College, Committee of Seventy, The Kimmel Center, City Year, PA CEOs against Cancer, Drexel University Center for Corporate Governance. Lovelidge has been recognized as the 2016 “Idealist of the Year” by City Year for outstanding leadership, commitment to excellence and dedication to improving the lives of students in Philadelphia. He was also awarded the 2017 “Doing the Most Good Community Leadership Award” by the Salvation Army given to the distinguished individual whose direction and compassion reflect the Salvation Army’s mission. In 2018, Lovelidge was recognized by Manheim Township High School as a Distinguished Alumni Award Winner for his professional accomplishments, community service and commitment to education. Lovelidge holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Elizabethtown College and an M.B.A. from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. He and his wife Deb live in Worcester Township, Pa., and Ocean City, N.J.
Tracey MacGown of Saucon Valley Country Club. MacGown, 60, of Bethlehem, Pa., retired from Air Products and Chemical, Inc. in 2014. She held a variety of responsibilities and roles, primarily focused on sales and marketing in the business area. In her 34 years at Air Products, she held various director of titles including: Enterprise Program; Price Management Program; Commercial Technology, Marketing and Strategic Planning and Strategic Planning for North American Merchant. Since, she has immersed herself in the Rules of Golf. She officiates for the Philadelphia and Gulf States PGA sections, the Louisiana Golf Association and the Golf Association of Philadelphia. She also volunteers her knowledge and time in the NCAA regionals and LSU home tournaments. MacGown lives in Baton Rouge, La., a portion of the year. She also serves as a course rater for both the Louisiana Golf Association and Golf Association of Philadelphia. She has volunteered for a number of PGATOUR and USGA events. MacGown holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration/Management Science from Shippensburg University and a M.S. in Management Science from Lehigh University.
Retiring from the GAP Executive Committee as of its Nov. 30, 2018 fiscal year-end are John R. Choyka of Indian Valley Country Club and Immediate Past President Robert M. Morey of Merion Golf Club. Choyka is retiring after seven years on the Executive Committee. Morey steps away after nine years on the Executive Committee, including a three-year stint as President (2015-17). Jon Warner of Aronimink Golf Club leaves the board after serving as the Ex-Officio of the Platt Scholarship from 2015-18.
The 2019 Nominating Committee was chaired by Daniel B. Burton of Lancaster Country Club with Frank E. Rutan, IV of Philadelphia Cricket Club and Terrence J. Sawyer of Lu Lu Country Club serving as members. Burton and Rutan are former Golf Association of Philadelphia Presidents. Sawyer is a former Executive Committee member.
