T. Quinn Spitzer, Jr. of Huntingdon Valley Country Club has been elected to serve a one-year term as President of the Golf Association of Philadelphia (GAP) for its fiscal year that begins Dec. 1, 2017. He is the 33rd Association President. Spitzer succeeds Robert M. Morey of Merion Golf Club, who completed his third one-year term as President, the limit for service in that office under the Association’s bylaws.
Spitzer, 68, served as the organization’s Vice President from 2015-17. He has been a board member since 2013. Spitzer is president of McHugh Consulting, a strategic planning company for Fortune 500 and equivalent international firms. He serves as a strategic advisor to the board of BMW, including that corporation’s major participation in and sponsorship of professional golf. Spitzer has been a HVCC member for 20 years and served on the club’s Golf Committee since 2013. He assisted with the USGA’s equipment studies from 2000-08.
The election of Officers and the 17-member Executive Committee occurred on Oct. 26, 2017 during the Association’s Annual Meeting at Wilmington Country Club in Wilmington, Del.
Also elected to one-year terms as Officers are Oscar L. Mestre, Overbrook Golf Club, Vice President; Richard A. Ogorek, Fieldstone Golf Club, Treasurer; and Kenneth A. Phillips, Lancaster Country Club, Secretary. Jeffrey S. Henderson of Gulph Mills Golf Club is nominated for a one-year term in his current role as General Counsel. Mestre, who served as Secretary in the just concluded fiscal year, assumes the role as Vice President as he enters his fifth year on the Executive Committee. Phillips, who in his second year on the Executive Committee, joins the officers as Secretary. Morey returns to the board as Immediate Past President.
Others on the GAP Executive Committee elected to serve an additional one-year term each are Edward R. Brzezowski, Concord Country Club; John R. Choyka, Indian Valley Country Club; C. Greg Guyer, Ph.D., Philadelphia Cricket Club; Edward P. Hutchinson, Tavistock Country Club; Michael B. McLelland, Chester Valley Golf Club; Glenn D. Meyer, Philmont Country Club; Noreen M. Mohler, Northampton Country Club; Jules J. Quinones, Blue Bell Country Club; Joseph F. Virdone, Philadelphia Country Club; Michael J. Walsh, III, Aronimink Golf Club; Barry J. Westington, Country Club of Scranton; and Jonathan P. Warner, Aronimink Golf Club. Warner is an ex-officio member of the Executive Committee as a result of his role as Chairman of the Platt Charitable Trust.
The 2018 Nominating Committee was chaired by Daniel B. Burton (GAP President, 2006-08), Lancaster Country Club. Its other members are Frank E. Rutan, IV (GAP President 2012-14), Philadelphia Cricket Club and Terrence J. Sawyer (GAP board 2004-12), Lu Lu Country Club.
