#BMWPhillyAm Qualifying: Running Deer

Mandel, Sigall lead 20 to #BMWPhillyAm berths at Running Deer

The road to BMW Philadelphia Amateur Championship glory, which includes the J. Wood Platt Trophy at the end of its path, began Monday at Running Deer Golf Club.

| Scorecards |

The first of four #BMWPhillyAm Qualifying events took place at the Pittsgrove, N.J. course (par 72, 6,694 yards), hosting 79 championship hopefuls. Only 20 of those were granted invitations to the championship proper after the day’s cut line stopped at 5-over 77.

The 122nd BMW Philadelphia Amateur Championship will take place June 13-15 and 18 at Philadelphia Country Club and Union League National Golf Club – Liberty Hill (Stroke-Play Qualifying only).

Securing medalist honors for the day was a pair at 1-over 73 — Philadelphia Cricket Club’s Marc Mandel and Little Mill Country Club’s Sean Sigall. On a day that birdies were hard to come by, both players jarred red numbers on No. 6 (par 4, 417 yards), while Sigall also got one to fall on No. 17 (par 5, 523 yards).

The BMW Philadelphia Amateur Championship is GAP’s premier individual championship. Participants must first advance through a one day, 36-hole stroke-play qualifier to gain one of 32 available match play positions. Those who qualify for match play must advance through four matches in two days to reach the BMW Philadelphia Amateur Final, which is typically held on the Saturday of Father’s Day weekend. The winner receives the J. Wood Platt Trophy; its namesake holds a record-seven BMW Philadelphia Amateur Championship titles.
