Berwick update

Severe storm damages Berwick

Berwick Golf Club is closed until further notice after a June 26 storm devasted the golf course.

The club lost 100-120 trees. Professional crews, in addition to 45-50 Berwick members, began removing debris and clearing limbs from the property June 27.

“Last night we texted the membership and told them we needed volunteers to come out. The membership has always been hands-on,” Club President Tom Cicini, 40, of Berwick, Pa., said. “We’ll have nine holes open in a few days. We have a plan of action.”

The Lawler Junior Tour event scheduled for June 28 is postponed. Participants will be notified of the reschedule date.

It serves as the principal ruling body of amateur golf in its region. The organization’s 345 Member Clubs and 110,000 individual members are spread across Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey and Maryland. The GAP’s mission is to promote, preserve and protect the game of golf.
