Architect Series honors GAP’s finest craftsmen

The blueprint didn’t change. It just sat on the shelf for a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

GAP grabbed the schematics and unrolled the Architect Series for 2021. A refresher: the GAP Architect Series honors some of the world’s most notable golf course architects. It gives GAP members a chance to experience some of their finest work.

William Flynn is the 2021 honoree.

“There is a segment of golfers that appreciates classic golf course architecture. We wanted to cater to that crowd,” John Manos, GAP Director of Course Rating, said. “Philadelphia is arguably the best region in the world for golf course architecture, and we wanted to highlight this in a fun and exciting way.”

Below is a list of Flynn courses and dates.

  • Lancaster Country Club (May 27)
  • Eagles Mere Country Club (June 17)
  • Philadelphia Country Club (July 21)
  • Huntingdon Valley Country Club (Aug. 23)
  • Rolling Green Golf Club (Sept. 13)

The GAP Architect Series includes lunch and golf. Wayne Morrison, one of the foremost experts on Flynn, will serve as a featured speaker during the Rolling Green event. Morrison is co-author of “The Nature Faker,” which chronicles Flynn’s contributions to golf architecture, course construction, agronomy and turf science.

Cost to participate in the GAP Architect Series, which includes entry into all five events, is $1,000 per person. Male and female members of GAP Member Clubs are eligible. The GAP Architect Series is now SOLD OUT. However, there is a waitlist should a spot become available.

A participant can substitute if he/she is unable to attend one of the events.

The GAP Architect Series is expected to become a programming fixture. Among the minds to be magnified: Donald Ross, the Fazios (George and Tom) and the Gordons (William and David). The Philadelphia School of Architecture is also a possible feature.
