Team GAP set for Williamson Cup Aug. 11-12

The GAP roster is set for the 55th Williamson Cup. Hosted by the Rochester District Golf Association in 2019, it will take Aug. 11-12 at Irondequoit Country Club in Rochester, N.Y.

The Williamson Cup began in 1964, when it was established by Fred Williamson in his father’s memory. It is one of the premier Junior golf events in the nation and features teams various state and regional golf associations. This year, a total of 10 organizations will participate. The competition consists of 36 holes of stroke play with the low three scores on each four-man team counting toward the team total.

GAP holds seven titles overall (1969, 1984, 1987-88, 1991, 1993, 2000). Below is a look at the 2019 Williamson Cup team.

Andreas Aivazoglou, Rolling Green Golf Club

Age: 18
Hometown: Glen Mills, Pa.
School: recent The Haverford School graduate, incoming freshman at Fordham University
2019 accomplishments: Qualified as the No. 12 seed in the 105th Junior Boys’ Championship, part of the GAP Junior Series presented by Citadel, at Coatesville Country Club; lost to Shawnee Country Club’s William Mirams, 19 holes … finished tied for third in the Christman Cup, part of the GAP Junior Series presented by Citadel, at The 1912 Club … tied for third in the Jock Mackenzie Memorial, part of the GAP Junior Series presented by Citadel, at Sandy Run Country Club … Harry Hammond Award runner-up with a score of 217 … currently ranked fourth in the Junior Player of the Year standings with 286.25 points.

William Bennink, Kennett Square Golf & Country Club

Age: 18

School: recent Unionville High School graduate, incoming freshman at Wheaton College
2019 accomplishments: Quarterfinalist in the 105th Junior Boys’ Championship, part of the GAP Junior Series presented by Citadel; lost to Mirams, 4&3 … runner-up in the Jock Mackenzie Memorial, part of the GAP Junior Series presented by Citadel … tied for third in the Harry Hammond Award standings with a score of 220 … currently ranked fifth in the Junior Player of the Year standings with 230 points.

Patrick Isztwan, Huntington Valley Country Club

Age: 16
Hometown: Huntington Valley, Pa.
School: Incoming junior at William Penn Charter School
2019 accomplishments: Semifinalist in the 105th Junior Boys’ Championship, part of the GAP Junior Series presented by Citadel; lost to Loch Nairn Golf Club’s Austin Barbin, 4&3 … tied for fourth in the Francis X. Hussey Memorial, part of the GAP Junior Series presented by Citadel, at Rolling Green Golf Club alongside partner John Bradbeer of Merion Golf Club … tied for third in the Chirstman Cup, part of the GAP Junior Series presented by Citadel … finished fifth in the Harry Hammond Award standings with a score of 221 … currently ranked sixth in the Junior Player of the Year standings with 228.75 points.

2019 accomplishments: Advanced to Round of 16 in 119th BMW Philadelphia Amateur at Stonewall; lost to Manasquan River Golf Club’s Jack Wall, 4&2 … medalist in the 105th Junior Boys’ Championship, part of the GAP Junior Series presented by Citadel; lost to Barbin, 5&4, in the Final … runner-up in the Christman Cup, part of the GAP Junior Series presented by Citadel … won the Jock Mackenzie Memorial, part of the GAP Junior Series presented by Citadel … Harry Hammond Award winner with a score of 208 … currently ranked second in the Junior Player of the Year standings with 560 points.
