The quest for DIAA (Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association) glory began Tuesday at Baywood Greens.

In the Girls’ Championship (par 72, 5,633 yards), Archmere Academy senior Meredith Finger of DuPont Country Club jumped out in front with a round of 71. She mixed four birdies with three bogeys to get to her magic number.

In the Boys’ Championship (par 72, 6,397 yards), Jake Hollerback, a Sussex Central High School junior, Baywood Greens member and the defending champion, carded a 68. He tallied three birdies, an eagle and two bogeys. Salesianum School junior Joseph Kelly sits in second after a 70.

Salesianum leads the team championship after Round One with a team total of 11-over-par 299.

The field was cut to the low 60 and ties for Wednesday’s final round. The cut stopped at 88 for both divisions.
