2025 GAP Central POYs - The Golf Association of Philadelphia

Senior Player of the Year: Phil D’Amato

D’Amato normally doesn’t stray far from his Harrisburg, Pa. home for golf. However, GAP Central offers a chance to experience new courses, so his golf show hits the road.

“[GAP Director of Central Operations] Joe Faust runs a great schedule. Those tournaments are fun,” D’Amato, 61, said. “I’m meeting a lot of new people. I thoroughly enjoy that. The Central Series is just fun. It’s not cutthroat like some of the Harrisburg area events are, or even GAP down in Philadelphia. If you play well, you’re rewarded. If you play so-so, it’s OK.”

D’Amato certainly played well in 2025. He posted Top-5 finishes in seven events. D’Amato earned runner-up honors at Eagles Mere Country Club, Lewistown Country Club and Tyoga Golf Course. He prevailed at Bucknell Golf Club with a score of 73.

“I love Bucknell. I’ve always loved it. It’s always in good condition,” D’Amato, an engineer for TE Connectivity, said. “It’s a fun track. It’s very fair. If you hit good shots, it will reward you. If you hit bad shots, it will penalize you. Most of the courses were fun, but Bucknell always holds a special place for me.”

Super-Senior Player of the Year: Stephen Borowitz

Upon his retirement from Fry Communications, Inc., Borowitz naturally saw more flexibility in his schedule. He dedicated that newfound time to his game.

“I’ve been playing a lot of golf this past year. I go to Florida in the winter time and play five days a week down there,” Borowitz, 68, of Mechanicsburg, Pa., said. “It’s probably the best golf I’ve played in 10 years.”

The GAP Central returns suggest so. Borowitz won four events: Bucknell, Eagles Mere, Lewistown and Susquehanna Valley Country Club. He tied for first at Indian Hills Golf Club and posted a pair of Top-10 finishes at Shade Mountain Golf Course and Williamsport Country Club.

“It was a real good season. I played really well,” Borowitz said. “Bucknell is a great golf course. It’s not a real long golf course, but it’s a fair golf course. I was impressed with Eagles Mere also. We were rained out there last year. It was a fun golf course.”

From November through April, Borowitz lives in Sebring, Fla. and plays at Highlands Ridge Golf Course. He is a fixture in a Thursday night skins game at Range End during the summer.
