New event highlights 2019 GAP Central Series

Year Two of the GAP Central Series features an inaugural event sure to sizzle on the schedule.

The GAP Central Mid-Am, set for Aug. 5 at Bucknell Golf Club, is open to players 25 years of age or older who are members of GAP Member Clubs. It is an 18-hole, individual stroke play event.

“After expanding its membership to include the northern and central regions of Pennsylvania, it was necessary to expand the opportunities that the GAP offers to its members,” Joe Faust, GAP Director of Central Operations, said. “In 2018, the GAP brought opportunities to Junior and senior Golfers in the central region. Now it’s time to offer opportunities to the middle-amateur players as well. By doing so, GAP continues to stay true to its mission: to preserve, protect and promote the game of golf.”

Registration for the GAP Central Mid-Am opens June 15. An entry fee of $75 includes cart, food and select prizes. Those with a handicap index of 15.0 or less are eligible to participate.

In addition to the GAP Central Mid Am, the GAP Central Series includes nine senior and eight Junior events. It kicks off May 22 with a senior event at Eagles Mere Country Club.

Celebrating Amateur Golf since 1897, GAP, also known as the Golf Association of Philadelphia, is the oldest regional or state golf association in the United States. It serves as the principal ruling body of amateur golf in its region. The Association’s 274 Full Member Clubs and 75,000 individual members are spread across the Eastern half of Pennsylvania and parts of New Jersey and Delaware. The GAP’s mission is to promote, preserve and protect the game of golf.
