Three take titles in 16th Spring Stroke Play

Glenmaura National Golf Club’s Vincent Scarpetta edged Honesdale Golf Club’s Eric Williams in a scorecard playoff to win the 16th Spring Stroke Play Championship at Wyoming Valley Country Club (par 71, 6, 153 yards) Monday.

Both players carded respective 1-under-par 70s. In a match of cards, Scarpetta bested Williams on Wyoming Valley’s back nine. He finished that stretch at even-par, Williams at 1 over. GAP uses the USGA-recommended scorecard tiebreaking method, which starts with last nine holes.

Elkview Country Club’s Kenn Bolcavage and the host club’s own Joseph Weiscarger birdied their final holes to win their respective divisions. Bolcavage’s mark meant a 1-under-par 70, good enough for a one-stroke victory in the event’s Senior Division (par 71, 5,865 yards). Weiscarger, playing in the penultimate group, birdied No. 18 (par 4, 318 yards) to take the Super-Senior Division (par 71, 5,283 yards) by a stroke over Elmhurst Country Club’s Tom White.
