GAP announces 2021 blood drives

In a continuing effort to expand its community outreach, GAP, in conjunction with the American Red Cross, will conduct three blood drives.

The following GAP Member Clubs will serve as host sites: Overbrook Golf Club (June 30), Tavistock Country Club (July 12) and White Clay Creek Country Club (Aug. 10). Each blood drive runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“GAP has always been and remains committed to the well-being of the golf community across our region,” Mark Peterson, GAP Executive Director, said. “By partnering with the American Red Cross to offer these blood drives, we are taking another step to think bigger. Our commitment is to help anyone and everyone in our community, not just golfers. We look forward to making the most of this opportunity.”

Open to all GAP members, each blood drive requires all interested donors to register in advance. Two appointment slots will be allotted every 15 minutes (9 to 10:15 a.m., 12:30 to 1:45 p.m.), one appointment every 15 minutes from 10:30 a.m. 12:15 p.m. At the top of each hour, an appointment slot will be available only to donors with the following blood types: O-, O+, B- and A-.

“Summer is always a challenging time for blood collection, and these drives are essential to maintaining our region’s summer blood supply,” Guy Triano, CEO of the American Red Cross Southeastern Pennsylvania Region, said. “There is no substitute for donated blood. Every day, patients rely on the generosity of donors to help them have a summer full of life as they battle illnesses and injury.”

The process of donating blood takes approximately 7-10 minutes. Once approximately a pint of blood is collected, then an American Red Cross staff member will remove the needle and place a bandage on a donor’s arm. Refreshments will be available so that donors can adjust to a slight decrease in fluid volume.
