#BMWPhillyAm registration opens; Whitemarsh Valley to host

The Golf Association of Philadelphia kicks off Masters week with an announcement concerning its most prestigious individual event.

Registration for the BMW Philadelphia Amateur Championship opens today. The event’s 118th edition heads to Whitemarsh Valley Country Club June 12-14 & 16. Green Valley Country Club will serve as a stroke-play qualifying site on Day One. The following venues will host qualifiers for the Championship proper:

Whitemarsh Valley’s hosted the BMW Philadelphia Amateur Championship on 14 occasions, most recently in 2008. Merion Golf Club’s Michael McDermott won his first of three titles by defeating Cole Willcox, 6&4, in the Final. GAP Hall of Famers John Dyniewski and J. Wood Platt, the Amateur trophy’s namesake, are among those who triumphed on the acclaimed Lafayette Hill, Pa. track.

The BMW Philadelphia Amateur Championship is the Association’s premier event. Participants must first advance through a one day, 36-hole stroke-play qualifier to gain one of 32 available match play positions. Those who qualify for match play must advance through four matches in two days to reach the BMW Philadelphia Amateur Final, which is typically held on the Saturday of Father’s Day weekend. The winner receives the J. Wood Platt Trophy; its namesake holds a record-seven BMW Philadelphia Amateur Championship titles.
