As of Wednesday, April 1, the active handicap posting season in the GAP region is open. All rounds played are now eligible to be posted to your handicap record, presuming they’re in accordance with the Rules of Handicapping and the Rules of Golf.
At this time, golf courses in Delaware remain open, while courses in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania are closed due to Governor’s orders. For updates on golf course policies during COVID-19 precautions, visit gapgolf.org.
In response to COVID-19, temporary Rules of Golf and Handicapping measures have been made by the USGA in order to stress safety on golf courses. Those changes, including hole modifications and not requiring the player to “hole out” as required under the Rules of Golf, are addressed here.
Beneficial changes have arrived in the form of the new World Handicap System, which took effect Jan. 1, 2020. Handicap revisions will now occur daily. The WHS brings six different handicap systems together into a single set of Rules for Handicapping, enabling golfers of different abilities to play and compete on a fair and equal basis. The way scores in the GAP region are posted has changed, too. While the GAP App has been retired, scores can be posted on GHIN.com from a computer, or via iPhone or Android through the GHIN App. Search “GHIN” in the App Store or Google Play to download the newest version.

Celebrating Amateur Golf since 1897, GAP, also known as the Golf Association of Philadelphia, is the oldest regional or state golf association in the United States. It serves as the principal ruling body of amateur golf in its region. The Association’s 288 Member Clubs and 75,000 individual members are spread across the Eastern half of Pennsylvania and parts of New Jersey and Delaware. The GAP’s mission is to promote, preserve and protect the game of golf.
