2007 Accomplishments: Became the first player to sweep all three GAP Senior Major tournaments in the same year… Defeated Charles “Buck” Jones in a six-hole, sudden-death playoff to take the Francis B. Warner Cup (Gross) at Bent Creek CC (par 71, 6,461 yards)… Won the Chapman Memorial Cup (Gross) with a 2-under-par 68 at his home track, Overbrook GC (par 70, 6,497 yards)… Overcame a late double-bogey and a resilient Ed Chylinski of Chester Valley GC to take the 37th Senior Amateur Championship at Waynesborough CC (par 71, 6,625 yards) with a two-round score of 141 (70-71)… Those three victories also earned Thompson the 2007 Senior Silver Cross Award as well as Senior Player of the Year honors.

2007 accomplishments: Qualified as the fourth seed for the Amateur Championship and advanced to the round of eight before falling to William McGuinness of Tavistock CC … placed fifth in the Patterson Cup with a score of 2-under-par 140. That top finish also propelled him to a second-place showing in the Silver Cross Award standings … qualified for the Open Championship … qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championship at The Olympic Club in San Francisco … placed sixth in the Player of the Year Standings.
