Founded in 1897, GAP continues to champion golf for the benefit of the game in its region and beyond.
Bill Care, a two-time Joseph H. Patterson Cup champion (1965, 1967) and Silver Cross Award winner (1964-65), is widely regarded a golfing legend along the Jersey Shore.
To celebrate both his competitive career and colorful character, friends and family gathered at Atlantic City Country Club, Care’s golfing home, for a surprise tribute.
In addition to his GAP Major titles, Care finished as low amateur in the Open Championship twice (1960, 1965) and shared medalist honors in the Amateur Championship in 1963. He won the Junior Boys’ Championship in 1957. The following year, he co-medaled in that event alongside future GAP Hall of Famer R. Jay Sigel.
