Kate Evanko of West Chester, Pa. carded a 3-over-par 74 to capture medalist honors in U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Qualifying administered by GAP at Bluestone Country Club (par 71, 6,028 yards).
She birdied Nos. 4 (par 5, 475 yards), 10 (par 4, 328 yards) and 14 (par 4, 360 yards) to get to the magic number.
Evanko grabbed one of six qualifying positions available. Joining her in the Championship proper are Kristina Ortiz of Morrisville, Pa., Katrin Wolfe of East Stroudsburg, Pa., Allison Wix of Harrisburg, Pa., Catherine Elliott of King of Prussia, Pa. and Katie Miller of Oakmont, Pa. Elliott and Miller survived a 3-for-2 sudden-death playoff to advance. The cutline stopped at 5-over-par 76 by day’s end.
The 36th U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship will be contested at Stonewall (North Course) in Elverson, Pa., Sept. 9-14.
