Riverton Country Club

Located in Cinnaminson, New Jersey, Riverton Country Club is one of the Delaware Valley’s oldest and most respected private country clubs. Founded in 1900, the club became one of the earliest members of the Golf Association of Philadelphia (GAP) just two years later. Today, this historic private country club continues to offer championship golf while preserving more than a century of tradition and excellence.

A Historic Beginning

Riverton Country Club was established in 1900 by a group of civic leaders who wanted to bring the growing game of golf to the Quaker community of Riverton. The club elected Edward H. Ogden as its first president, while James S. Coale—whose name lives on through the Coale Memorial Tournament—helped shape the club’s early vision and golfing tradition.

The founders purchased 62 acres of rolling land and built a clubhouse overlooking the Delaware River. Soon after, John Reid, one of America’s pioneering golf professionals, worked with James Coale to design the club’s original nine-hole golf course. The course officially opened in 1900 and quickly attracted more than 100 members. As a result, Riverton established itself as one of New Jersey’s premier private golf clubs during the early years of the sport.

Over the following decades, Riverton Country Club expanded and modernized while remaining true to its historic character. Today, the championship golf course offers an enjoyable test for golfers of every skill level, combining mature trees, strategic bunkering, and beautifully maintained greens. 

A Tradition That Continues

Today, Riverton Country Club remains one of South Jersey’s premier private country clubs. Members enjoy championship golf, outstanding practice facilities, exceptional dining, swimming, tennis, pickleball, and an active calendar of tournaments and social events. In addition, the club continues to host competitive golf while maintaining the welcoming atmosphere that has defined Riverton for more than 125 years.
