Philadelphia Cricket Club was founded in 1854, making it the oldest country club in the United States. The club originally focused on cricket. However, as golf grew in popularity, members embraced the game in 1895. They built the St. Martins Course, which quickly became a cornerstone of golf in the Philadelphia region. As a result, the club established itself as one of the nation’s early leaders in the sport.

As membership grew, the club purchased property in Flourtown. It then commissioned renowned architect A.W. Tillinghast to design the Wissahickon Course, which opened in 1922. Today, golfers recognize the course as one of America’s finest classic designs. It also reflects the club’s remarkable history and commitment to championship golf.
