History

Linwood Country Club has been a fixture of South Jersey golf for more than a century. Founded in 1921, the club was created during a time when golf was rapidly growing throughout the region. Local leaders envisioned a place where golfers could enjoy the game while building lasting friendships and community connections.

The original property included more than 250 acres across multiple tracts of land. The course and clubhouse were designed to take advantage of the area’s natural beauty, with the clubhouse positioned on a hill overlooking the surrounding landscape. Over the years, the club has expanded and improved its facilities while maintaining the character that has defined it since its founding.

A Historic Herbert Strong Design

The centerpiece of Linwood Country Club is its 18-hole golf course, originally designed by Herbert Bertram Strong. Strong was a respected golf course architect whose work helped shape early American golf course design. His layout at Linwood reflects a classic approach, combining strategic challenges with the natural features of the property.

Located near the back bays of Absecon Island, the course offers scenic views of the surrounding landscape and Atlantic City skyline. Mature trees, carefully placed hazards, and thoughtful routing create a memorable experience for golfers of all skill levels.

Golf, Recreation, and Community

Throughout its history, Linwood Country Club has remained focused on creating an engaging club experience. Members enjoy golf, tennis, dining, tournaments, and social events throughout the year.

The club has continued to evolve with improvements to both the course and clubhouse. A major golf course renovation from 1999 to 2001 enhanced playability while highlighting the property’s unique seaside setting. In addition, expanded dining and event facilities have helped strengthen the club’s role as a gathering place for members and guests.

Today, Linwood Country Club remains one of South Jersey’s most respected private golf clubs. More than 100 years after opening, the club continues to blend historic charm with modern amenities.

By preserving its classic golf traditions while embracing thoughtful improvements, Linwood Country Club provides members with a unique experience along the Jersey Shore. Scenic views, a storied history, and a commitment to community continue to define the club today.
