Junior-Junior Boys Championship
MOORESTOWN, N.J.– Bobby Wurtz of Philadelphia Cricket Club fired a 2-over-par 38 to earn low medallist honors at the Golf Association of Philadelphia’s 59th Junior-Junior Boys’ Championship Monday at Moorestown Field Club (par 36, 2,899 yards).
Finishing one stroke back in a tie for second place was David Pompey of the Country Club of Scranton and Zachary Dilcher of Hartefeld National, the 2005 Junior-Junior Boys’ Champion and last year’s runner up to Champion Jonathan Ortiz of Philmont CC.
Pompey and Dilcher carded 3-over-par 39’s to earn the second and third seeds, respectively, behind Wurtz in tomorrow’s match play portion of the event.
Monday’s low eight players qualified for the championship flight. R. Morgan Dougherty of Huntingdon Valley CC, who finished in a four-way tie at 42 with Jimmy Ryan of Waynesborough CC, Connor Eichman of Llanerch CC and Drew Calamaro of Rolling Green GC, grabbed the final spot in the championship flight after a three-hole, sudden death playoff.
Thirty-two players advanced to match play on Tuesday, a single elimination event that concludes with an 18-hole match play format for all four flights on Wednesday.
