McClaskey team takes Senior Four-Man title

 SKILLMAN, N.J. – They sound more like a law firm than golfers, but the team of McClaskey, Sawyer, Sherratt & Smith proved to be very much at home on the golf course on Thursday.

  They fired a 10-under-par 134 to take the Golf Association of Philadelphia’s Senior Four-Man Team competition at Cherry Valley Country Club (Par 72, 6,290 yards).

 “We all played well,” McClaskey said. “We all chipped in. Everyone had birdies. We only had one bogey, and Jim eagled No. 3.”

  Sherratt was home in two on the 490-yard, par-5 third hole, the team’s twelfth, and rammed in a 40-footer for the eagle.

  The foursome of John H. Guenther of Heidelberg CC, Fred Negri of Moselem Springs GC, and Fred Tyler, Jr., and Gregg Gottshall of Reading CC carded a 137 for second place, followed by the team of John Howson, Jr., of St. Davids GC, Curt Fromal of The Springhaven Club, and William Castro and Ernest Peters of Penn Oaks GC who were third with a 138.

  Thomas Conboy, Francis Nixon and William Rice of Sandy Run CC and John Endicott of Manufacturers G&CC earned the net title with a 122, 22-under-par.

  The format was two best gross and two best net scores per hole, with net competition at 90 percent of individual course handicap.
