The Golf Association of Philadelphia’s Women’s Programming continues its growth with the addition of a partnership with Fore the Ladies.
Founded in 2019 by Abby Liebenthal, Fore the Ladies is a 501(c)(3) with the goal of introducing more women to the game, while making golf more accessible and approachable.
Throughout the 2021 season, two Fore the Ladies/GAP Intro-to-Golf clinics, plus a four-week clinic series, were held at Walnut Lane Golf Club in Philadelphia. The individual clinics were designed to teach the basics of the game, with the clinic series going into more detail when it comes to the different skills used on the course and basic course management. Both formats were designed to be relaxed and welcoming to golfers of any age or skill level.
“As someone who had previous golf experience but was quite out of practice, I thoroughly enjoyed the Ladies Clinic Series at Walnut Lane. The series was well designed and accessible for any level golfer,” said Christina Moore, a clinic and clinic series participant.”In fact, my mom was in town for one of the clinics and decided to join me. She hasn’t golfed in 30 years but she had such a wonderful time and even made a few great shots.”
With Liebenthal’s busy schedule and Fore the Ladies events flourishing all around the country, typically only one event was able to be held in each city.In order to continue its women’s programming, GAP was thrilled to work with Liebethal in providing more opportunities to both new and returning female golfers throughout the GAP Region.
“The partnership with GAP this year has completely elevated the experience for women to learn how to play golf in the Philadelphia area. Our first introduction-to-golf clinic and four-week instructional series is complemented by GAP’s programs for women and allows for a full season of golf activities.” said Leibethal about the new partnership.
GAP and Fore the Ladies are working to continue to offer programming in the Philadelphia area throughout the winter while improving the partnership and its future events.
