PHILADELPHIA, Pa.–Robert Galbreath, Jr., of Huntingdon Valley CC and Amory Davis of DuPont CC battled their way Wednesday morning into the championship match at Torresdale-Frankford CC (par 70 6,160 yards) in the Golf Association of Philadelphia’s 91st Junior Boys Championship.
The match, which began at noon, will pit the reigning champion, Galbreath, against a former Junior-Junior champion, Davis.
Galbreath earned a berth in the final match by grinding out a, 2&1, win over Sam Ryder of Aronimink GC. Davis dispatched Philip Anzaldo of Tavistock CC, 3&2.
Galbreath won despite being uncharacteristically 6-over-par for 17 holes. He closed out the match with a two-putt par 3 on the 182-yard No. 17, as Ryder sprayed his tee shot wide left and bogeyed the hole.
Davis played steady, 1-over-par golf, with three birdies, in beating Anzaldo, who earlier this month had qualified for the USGA Junior Amateur championship.
