In medallist Ortiz’s first match, the 13-year-old never fell behind carding four pars and a birdie on No. 8 (par 5, 443 yards) to defeat fellow Philmont CC member Evan Galbreath, 2&1.
Dilcher had a little more trouble on his first match of the day. The sixth seed trailed right off the bat falling to 2-down to third-seed Julian Dorey of Tavistock CC. Dilcher trailed through a majority of the match until he brought it back to All Square with a par on No. 8. Sensing defeat, Dilcher pared the final hole of the match (No. 9, par 4, 370 yards) to outlast Dorey, 1-up.
In the pair’s second matches, Dilcher and Ortiz swapped their methods of victory as Ortiz hung on to defeat last year’s medallist Ted Brennan of Philadelphia CC 1-up, while Dilcher enjoyed a bit more breathing room as he took down Mathew Vargo of Brandywine CC, 2&1.
The duo goes head to head in an 18-hole final round match Wednesday morning to decide the 2006 Junior-Junior Boys’ Championship.
In the first flight semifinals, Jack Loeber of Wedgwood CC defeated Benjamin Cooley of Lu Lu Country Club, 4&2. He faces off against Paul Carbone, Jr. of Old York Road CC in the finals who defeated Justin Knisely of West Chester G & CC, 3&2.
Steven Altieri of Hopewell Valley GC defeated Joseph Procacci of Riverton CC, 3&2, to face off against Connor Eichman in the finals of the second flight. Connor beat Jonathan Liu of Commonwealth National GC 1-up to advance to tomorrow’s final.
And in the third flight, R. Morgan Dougherty of Huntingdon Valley CC will go against Mitch Van Ostenbridge of Spring Ford CC in the finals. Van Ostenbridge defeated Brendan Papariello of White Manor CC, 2&1, while Dougherty defeated Matthew Szczecinski of Inniscrone GC with the same score.
