This is the final year Delaware will field a Williamson Cup team. As part of a merger between GAP and the Delaware State Golf Association, in 2022, players from the state of Delaware will now be eligible to represent Team GAP.

“I can’t think of a better host to showcase Delaware golf as the DSGA team ends its 25-year tenure in the Williamson Cup,” GAP Director of Championship Administration Laura Heien, who also served as the DSGA’s Executive Director for three years, said. “Rehoboth Beach has never wavered in its support of the Association’s activities and has a long history of supporting the game’s next generation of golfers. It will be a great test of golf followed by camaraderie and friendship during the cookout on the 19th hole par 3 overlooking Rehoboth Bay.”

The Williamson Cup, originating in 1964, aims to foster relationships between participants and provide a competitive playing experience for junior golfers on both national and international levels. The event consists of four-player teams competing in two rounds of stroke play. Each team counts its top three scores in each round. There are currently 10 participating associations fielding teams.

Last year, the Rochester District Golf Association took the title at Lookout Point Country Club in Ontario, Canada. Team members Brody Burgess, Owen Corby, Alex Hill and Connor Kiel collaborated for a 13-over-par 445 total to edge the Metropolitan Golf Association by two strokes. Last year’s victory marked the third time Rochester District hoisted the hardware (1978, 2009). Golf Ontario currently holds the most Williamson Cup titles at 12 (1968, 1973, 1975, 1977, 1980, 1998-99, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2013 and 2016).

This year, a shimmering shore site will serve as the stadium.

Rehoboth Beach Country Club opened in 1925 as a nine-hole facility created “for pleasure, recreation and entertainment of its Members and their guests.” Following significant membership growth, the club sought new land to accommodate an 18-hole golf course in the 1950s. Club officials settled on an 150-acre waterfront plot on the Rehoboth Bay between Bald Eagle Creek and White Oak Creek. The grand opening of the club, at the site it resides today, happened in June 1966. Ever since, the club has continued to add amenities to improve it’s membership experience.
