The quest for DIAA (Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association) glory began Tuesday at St. Anne’s Golf Links. This year’s DIAA State Championship field feature 15 schools with four-to-six golfers entered, making each of those eligible for the team championship.

In the Girls’ Individual Championship (par 70, 5,410 yards), Archmere Academy sophomore Hannah Webb of DuPont Country Club jumped out in front with a round of 71. She mixed three birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey to get to her magic number.

In the Boys’ Championship (par 70, 6,022 yards), Sussex Central High School sophomore and Baywood Greens member Jake Hollerback carded the lone under-par round with a 68. He tallied five birdies and three bogeys. Tatnall School senior Jack Homer sits in second after a 70.

Archmere leads the team championship after Round One with a team total of 15-over-par 295.

The field was cut to the low 60 and ties for Wednesday’s final round. The cut stopped at 85 for both divisions.
