ARDMORE, Pa. – Snow way we were going to let a few inches of accumulation get in between us and the game we love, especially on a day we’ve had marked on our calendars for quite some time now.

Despite forecasts calling for blizzard-like conditions, the snow cooperated in favor of the Association’s first ever #PolarPlay9 Day on Thursday, Feb. 9. The event, with a highlight on the USGA’s #Play9Golf initiative, sheltered golfers in nine indoor golf facilities throughout the Philadelphia region.

“The #Play9Golf initiative is something that we strongly believe in here at the Golf Association of Philadelphia. We continue to strive, with as events such as these, to support players in their shortened rounds if time doesn’t allow for a round of 18,” said President Bob Morey.

Association Executive Committee Members and Staff headquartered in Play-A-Round Golf’s Ardmore location, first playing a simulated, nine-hole round at Pebble Beach followed by a par-3 showcase featuring some of the world’s best to offer. As many would expect, competition was flowing through the hitting bays. Highlights of the day included numerous wet shots sprinkled with a few rowdy chip ins.

“Getting our EC and Staff Members together is always a good, productive time. We spent a few hours here playing rounds of nine, talking and playing like it was the middle of the season,” said Executive Director Mark Peterson. “I’d highly suggest indoor golf to anybody who is looking to get their game in tune for the upcoming season – it’s the closest thing you can get to that. There are some great indoor facilities all around us.”

All Golf Association of Philadelphia Members were entitled to a 20-percent discount at participating facilities that could be applied to any reservations made. To receive the discount, players visited their My GAP Locker and downloaded a 20-percent discount certificate.

“We believe it’s important to give back to our Members, not just throughout the golf season, but during the offseason as well. Our mission is to grow the game and get a club in member’s hands as much as possible, no matter what time of year. Today’s event was another example of that, while also helping out local businesses at the same time.”

The discount was offered at these nine facilities: Play-A-Round Golf (Ardmore and Malvern), Baylinks Golf (Newtown), Golf364 (Linfield), Golf & Social (Evesham Township), Golf Science Center (Philadelphia), Golf USA of Limerick (Limerick), Umbria Golf Center (Philadelphia) and Golf Performance Institute (Mt.Laurel).

New for this year, the USGA has announced PLAY9 Play Days for the ninth of every month – May through October – at a number of participating clubs, which will be announced in the near future. Stay tuned for more information regarding new offers surrounding the #Play9Golf initiative.
