Lancaster CC’s Burke takes Caddie Tournament

  LITITZ, Pa. – Thirty seven member clubs from the Golf Association of Philadelphia sent their caddies to compete in the 78^th edition of the Caddie Tournament at Bent Creek CC (par 71, 6,176 yards) on Monday, with five players coming out on top of their respective divisions.

  Shaun Burke of Lancaster CC fired five birdies to post a tournament low, 3-over-par 74 to take the 32 to 46-year-old division, while Daniel Reeves of Manufactures Golf & CC took the 22 to 31-year-old flight with a score of 75.

  In a scorecard playoff, Ken McKee of Pine Valley Golf Club edged Former Amateur Champion (1974) and two-time Caddie Tournament Champion (2003, 2005), John Herman Fry of Stonewall to take the 47 and older flight with a 77.

  Steve Hosack of Torresdale-Frankford Country Club, came out on top of the 18 to 21-year-old division with a 78, and Matt Walker of Squires Golf Club took the 17and under flight with a score of 90.

  Burke, 34, would ride his stellar short game to victory after he birdied three of his last four holes.

  “My putting was definitely the key to my round,” Burke said. “I made some nice birdie putts.”

  He added, “It was just a great day and a lot of fun to be out here with these guys.”

  “It’s just nice being outside on a Monday that’s for sure.”

  For Reeves, who missed all but four fairways, his iron play would prove to be vital as the 25-year-old from Collegeville, Pa. came within one stroke of Burke.

  “I only hit four fairways, and those were with irons,” Reeves said.

  Originating in 1928, the first Caddie tournament was held at Whitemarsh Valley CC. This year’s Tournament presented a field of 112 players.
