“We are very fortunate to have a great group of players who have supported these offseason events since the beginning,” Chris Roselle, the Association’s Tournament Director, said. “If players are looking for a low stress way in which to shake off the winter rust and to prepare for the BMW GAP Team Matches, the spring portion of the Winter Series is the perfect environment for that.”

Cost is $40 per person per event, plus a $35 cart fee per event. Entrants are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. Below is a list of Winter Series events currently on the spring slate.

Date Venue Shotgun start Format
Wednesday, March 1 Whitford 11 a.m. Better-ball of partners

A pair of host facilities include addendums of note to all participants. Penn Oaks Golf Club implemented new 007 Creeping Bentgrass greens in 2016. As a result, the club requires players to wear approved spikeless golf shoes or sneakers that feature a flat bottom. Golf footwear with spikes of any kind will not be permitted on the course. If players are unsure of whether their footwear conforms to the club’s policy, they may contact Penn Oaks directly at 610-399-0501.

Sea Oaks Golf Club, located in Little Egg Harbor, N.J., will offer practice rounds on March 28. Cost is $29 with cart. Those looking to play a practice round may also take advantage of on-site lodging overnight at Sea Oaks. Cost is $89 plus tax per room.

The Winter Series features a Players of the Year competition complete with four categories: Amateur Gross, Senior Gross, Amateur Net and Senior Net. Bellewood Country Club’s Richard Custer heads both Senior sects entering the spring leg. Four-time reigning Amateur Net Player of the Year Greg Smith, a Radley Run Country Club member, remains atop that category with 505 points. The Amateur Gross Division finds a pair of Little Mill Country Club buddies battling for the No. 1 spot. Joe Zulli holds a 110-point lead over David Waxman.

The Winter Series is open to all Golf Association of Philadelphia Amateur Members 18 years of age and older, Philadelphia Section of PGA Members and golf professionals at Member Clubs. It began in 2008 as a way to offer players of any skill level an opportunity to compete in tournament golf during the normally quiet, offseason months.
