GAP postpones 116th #GAPOpen Championship

It is with great regret that GAP needs to postpone the 2020 Open Championship planned for Monday at Galloway National Golf Club.  Governor’s Murphy’s directive advising the need for a 14-day quarantine for individuals who were residents in or visited certain states has made it impossible for GAP to fairly assemble a field for the event at the current time.  There are any number of potential competitors whose travel, especially to Delaware, has raised questions as to whether they can participate in the event.  Each circumstance is different and many are very close calls as to whether they are within the obligation to quarantine as outlined in the Governor’s Directive.   Consequently, we have chosen to postpone this event rather than exclude any number of players many of whom might have a legitimate claim for exemption from the quarantine order.

We regret having to take this action, but the Governor’s wording indicating that compliance is expected offers GAP little latitude.  We especially regret the late notice, but, as Delaware was added only recently to Governor Murphy’s list of quarantine states, we had little advance warning that this problem would exist.

It is our intent to seek a new date for this event so that the 2020 GAP Open can be conducted with a full (based on GAP 2020 policy) and unrestricted field.  Should GAP be able to secure a new date, we will notify all currently registered players immediately.  Should it be necessary to cancel the 2020 GAP Open, we will notify all parties of that decision immediately.

Again, please accept our apologies for this unfortunate but necessary action.  We hope to see all of you at GAP events, and hopefully the GAP Open later this year.
