Former GAP volunteer, DSA recipient Fitzgerald dies

Bob Fitzgerald (left), the 2014 Distinguished Service Award recipient and former Volunteer of the Year (2008), died Jan. 6. He was 92.

Fitzgerald, a Sandy Run Country Club member of nearly four decades, started as a GAP volunteer in 1988 after a discussion with former Executive Committee member Jim McCann. He served as a starter/scorer for 26 years. Fitzgerald, of Warminster, Pa., worked for PECO as a construction detailer designer. He served in the Coast Guard during World War II.

Fitzgerald was the husband of the late Lorraine F. (Long) and the father of Sharon, Robert, Kimberly, Cynthia and Leslie. He is survived by 10 grandchildren, six great grandchildren, three brothers, Joseph, Charles and James, as well as his dearest friend, Rae Harff.

A viewing will take place Thursday, Jan. 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday, Jan. 10 from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. at Saint Cyril of Jerusalem Church in Jamison, Pa. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday. Burial at Whitemarsh Memorial Park in Horsham, Pa. will follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Crossroads Hospice, 523 Plymouth Road, Suite 225, Plymouth Meeting, PA 19462.
