Winter offers one more chance to play
††I repeatedly preach about supporting your club with one more; whether that be one more round, one more lesson from your local Philadelphia Section PGA Professional or one more meal.
††Though the weather has turned colder, thatís no reason to totally abandon your club.
††In this issue of the Golf Association of Philadelphia Magazine, a focus on winter golf details how the game remains relevant year round. Your club still offers ways to fill your golf fix despite the frigid temperatures outside. Even in January, a bad day on the golf course is still better than a day in the office.
††Congratulations to all of the respective players of the year. What a thrill it was to follow each race this season, and a special congrats to former Executive Committee Member Chip Lutz, your 2015 U.S. Senior Amateur Champion. It was a privilege to witness an outstanding gentleman like Chip take home the trophy.
††Also, a job well done by Hidden Creek Golf Club, a Golf Association of Philadelphia Member Club, on hosting its first USGA Championship.
††Speaking of Member Clubs, congratulations to all those individuals who captured their respective Club Championships. There isnít enough room in the Golf Association of Philadelphia Magazine to recognize every category, but a listing of the Menís, Womenís and Senior Champions can be found toward the back of the book.
|††Following up on a previous item, the Golf in Schools Program continues to grow with youthful smiles abound. The Program visited Hillside Elementary in the Tredyffrin/Easttown School District where more than 100 first graders experienced the game firsthand. The results were evident in the cheers and highfives demonstrated frequently throughout the gym.|
††I would be remiss not to commend John MacDonald of The First Tee of Greater Philadelphia on his retirement. John has been a rock in the golf community for the last 35-plus years, making a difference with youngsters throughout his tenure. William Hyndman, V, grandson of the legendary William Hyndman, III and a longtime friend of the Association, will succeed MacDonald. Although he has big shoes to fill, I know Bill will make John proud.
††A special thank you to all those companies that supported the Association this past year. We appreciate and value your devotion to the game and the organization. We announced our first Founding Partner in BMW and the Delaware Valley BMW Centers. The relationship has been a tremendous success and will continue to blossom in the years ahead.
††The 2016 season will be here soon enough. In this issue you will find a tentative tournament schedule with dates and venues. Also, included in this issue are the upcoming dates/sites for the second half of the Winter Series and 2016 Member Play Days.
††All of those opportunities should give you one more reason to keep golf in mind this winter.
