Topgolf GAP 2019 Winter League announced
While the first official day of winter is still a couple of weeks away, dropping temperatures and early sunsets have golfers in the region already singing the blues.
Fortunately, the Golf Association of Philadelphia has just the cure. Starting Jan. 9, the Topgolf GAP 2019 Winter League will enable Association members to participate in a competitive environment over 12 weeks at the new Topgolf facility in Mount Laurel, N.J.
For GAP members, this is an exclusive opportunity to play Topgolf at a lower cost and to compete with a golf club in-hand during a time that usually requires a flight to a warm-weather state. Each team’s cost for the league is $500. The 12-week league will consist of two-person teams, competing from 6 to 8 p.m., with up to 30 minutes allotted for warmup time prior each week. Topgolf membership fees will be waived for competitors, and food and beverage will be available for purchase during play.

Gift certificates to Topgolf will be awarded to the winning team after the 12 weeks of play. Note that while each registered team will consist of two GAP members, substitutions are allowed each week, presuming the substituted golfer is also a GAP member. For example, if you and a friend register to play but cannot make it one of the weeks, you’re welcome to send two friends in your place, as long as they’re members of the GAP.
Also, a golfer can only compete for one team throughout the 12 weeks, so that substitute cannot be someone who has previously competed in the league for another team.
Topgolf is a three-story driving range and entertainment complex that currently has 51 locations nationwide. The upcoming Topgolf GAP 2019 Winter League will take place at the local facility’s lower level, which has 34 heated bays. Different Topgolf formats will be used throughout the 12 weeks, and results will be posted each week on www.gapgolf.org.
The cost of $500 for two players for 12 weeks is a significant discount to experience Topgolf, as normal rates start at $30 per hour during the morning, $40 per hour in the afternoon and $50 per hour after 5 p.m. each night. At slightly less than $21 per week for two hours of play, this is a great way for GAP members to work on their games, to compete and to socialize during the winter months.
The league will run from Wednesday, Jan. 9 until Wednesday, March 27. Topgolf rarely closes for weather, and there are no makeup dates if a golfer cannot make it on a specific week.
